Jazz Cruise: Dave Koz and Friends at Sea

jazz cruise

The Jazz Cruise lineups are comprised of nearly 100 of the very top jazz musicians in the world. Over the years, several musicians have become mainstays of the cruise and return nearly every year. Another large group of musicians are frequent, though not perennial participants, and, whenever possible The Jazz Cruise features a musician who is either new on the scene or simply new to the cruise. This combination of musicians creates excitement and enthusiasm, while maintaining a solid base upon which the aura of the cruise is built. All Cruise Price and Pass-Through Charge payments made to date or paid in the future are non-refundable. Payments are refundable only when either Celebrity Cruises or The Smooth Jazz Cruise cancels or reschedules the cruise.

Since 2001, The Jazz Cruise has set the standard for jazz entertainment at sea, and, in the minds of many has become the most significant “straight-ahead” jazz event in the world. The musicians themselves call the program “Straight-Ahead Jazz Heaven”. Jazz Cruises is excited to announce that the third edition of The Smooth Jazz Cruise On Land in St. Louis was a huge success. The first night was totally sold out and the second night came very close as well. Stay tuned for information about The Smooth Jazz Cruise on Land in St. Louis IV. After dinner, The Cosmopolitan Restaurant becomes a lovely late-night, cabaret-style music venue.

Beyond The Music

The Botti at Sea II (’25) Production Team is led by Brian Rachko, who has been a part of Jazz Cruises’ programs for over 16 years. No sense in presenting great entertainment without providing the very best way to enjoy it. We are careful not to share too much of this information now as the element of surprise is part of the excitement, but here are three types of events we produce just for the sheer enjoyment of doing so. The main shows are performed in the majestic Theatre, which comfortably holds half of the guests on board. Main Show Schedules are determined when a Reservation is completed and is reflected in the color of each Guest’s Cruise Identification Card (BLUE or RED). Dave Koz and Friends at Sea is sold by Flying Dutchmen Travel, and the onboard shows are produced by Bridgeway Entertainment.

Dubbed "The Greatest Jazz Festival at Sea," the Jazz Cruise promises a jam-packed schedule featuring 100 jazz musicians. Dianne Reeves, Shelly Burg and Christian McBride are some of the famous faces you might see onboard. The fully chartered sailing has been cruising for almost two decades, and it features a festival-style schedule with multiple performances happening at the same time. For more than a decade, saxophonist Dave Koz has been hosting multiple fully chartered Royal Caribbean sailings each year, featuring smooth jazz performers, R&B musicians and special guests like comedians and magicians. Jazz Cruise itineraries vary year by year, with past sailings in the Mediterranean, Alaska and the Caribbean. Programming The Jazz Cruise starts with nearly 100 world-class musicians, scheduling them in exciting configurations for over 200 hours of music, and presenting the music festival-style over seven jam-packed days.

JAZZ CRUISES PRESENTS STL JAZZ FEST ’24!

Botti at Sea II (’25) sports another amazing lineup and, if possible, Host Chris Botti has vowed to be even more active and involved than he was on Botti at Sea ’24. Grand Cayman is an enchanting island of long, sandy beaches, translucent water, and spectacular marine life. The island is also home to the country’s capital, George Town, which has a waterfront lined by wooden buildings in bright colors. Museums, galleries and other cultural highlights, such as The Cayman Islands National Museum, Pure Art Gallery, and Heroes Square are all located in George Town as well. Although the lure of soft sand and sparkling water is compelling, there’s plenty to see and do here, from lush botanical gardens to mysterious caves. Divers will find exciting wrecks to discover, while there’s fascinating history at the stately Pedro St. James Castle and a vibrant art collection at the National Gallery.

Guests may contact the office to propose alternative schedules for payment. Boasting one of North America’s largest Chinatowns, Victoria is hailed as the Afternoon Tea Capital of Canada as well as the Brunch Capital of Canada. Our Culinary Expert, Michael Bauer, will be presenting several top selections for dining in Victoria. We will be in the city from 7 am – midnight, so any and all meal types are in play.

In this conversation recorded on The Smooth Jazz Cruise 24.1, saxophonist Mindi Abair talks with cruise host Talaya from SiriusXM. Mindi talked about collaborating with other artists on The Smooth Jazz Cruise. And about breaking into the music business when she first moved to LA where she was discovered by Bobby Lyle. She also reflects on partnering with guitarist Randy Jacobs in the band The Boneshakers. All Guests are required to pay port charges, government taxes and fees, onboard service gratuities for shipboard staff and other charges due and payable to third parties.

The Houston Person Dance Party is one of the great events of the Cruise. Be sure to bring your pickleball paddles, as the Summit is equipped with an interactive sports court. Robin Eubanks is one of the premier jazz trombonists of his generation. Whether performing with his groups, EB3 or Mental Images, or with the critically acclaimed Dave Holland Quintet and Big Band, Robin is an artist whose impact on audiences has proven powerful and lasting. Robin has recorded more than seven albums as a leader featuring his original music.

Your Cruise Price DOES NOT Include

As a record producer, he has worked with many artists, including Etta Jones, Freddy Cole, Charles Brown, David ‘Fathead’ Newman, Dakota Staton, and Ernie Andrews. Kevin would go on to work with jazz greats such as Art Blakey, Slide Hampton, McCoy Tyner, Sam Rivers, Roy Haynes, Dave Holland, Ron Carter and others. In addition to working in other bands, Kevin became the leader of his own groups that have toured all over the world. He has recorded more than 15 albums as a leader, plus several as a co-leader with artists like Orrin Evans and Stanley Jordan. Botti at Sea ’24 was the first sailing of this program, and, by all standards, it was a runaway hit. Reaching fully reserved status months before sailing was an indication of the excitement the cruise generated, and the sailing only confirmed that the hype was real.

Special drinks and food are available while you sit in luxury and enjoy entertainment ranging from comedy to music to dancing. Specifically, we will be taking our guests on a Journey from the early days of jazz through the modern era. Marcus Miller and Gregory Porter, two astute jazz aficionados, will be your guides all week. The other “journey” will be our return to the West Coast complete with a long list of privately curated and produced land-based excursions and events. No luxury cruise program would be complete without cocktails, wine, and food.

Our selected wineries are family-owned and operated, which means each winery visit will feel like home. We have managed to get some of the best of the best in the jazz world to come perform for you on our jazz cruise. Just to let you know though, this year, pricing is temporary and subject to change at any time. Beginning in the 1990s, he toured with the Tommy Flanagan Trio and he has played with the Bill Charlap Trio since the mid ‘90s. He was a founding member of the collective sextet One for All and is a visiting artist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In 2008, Washington played with The Blue Note 7, an all-star septet formed in honor of Blue Note Records’ 70th Anniversary.

Kevin, along with brothers Duane and Robin, was born into a musical household in Philadelphia, PA. Duane crossed over to play and record with Alicia Keys, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Wu-Tang Clan, and Kirk Franklin. He has played the Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, and the Kennedy Center, as well as toured throughout Europe, Japan, and the Middle East. His most recent albums as a bandleader are Things of that Particular Nature and DE3-Live at Maxwell’s, both on Sunnyside.

Sold by Entertainment Cruise Productions, which also runs the Smooth Jazz Cruise and the Jazz Cruise, Blue Note at Sea is a comparatively cooler, bluesier kind of music theme cruise. Acts you'd find in a hip blues joint pepper the lineup, including a younger set of up-and-coming artists. Catch performances by blues, roots, jazz and R&B performers, and enjoy musical events, from live interviews to rare collaborations. When in port, lectures and other events are planned for the early part of the day and the music typically starts around 4 pm. Daytime music shows may be presented in any of the music venues (Celebrity Theatre, Rendezvous Lounge or Sky Lounge).

What is different about our visit as compared to a typical stop in San Francisco are the Special Events/Excursions that Jazz Cruises has created and will produce. Journey of Jazz ’25 arrives in San Francisco on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 7 am (local) and departs on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at 6 pm (local). While in San Francisco, Journey of Jazz ’25 will present the customary amazing concerts and shows that Jazz Cruises has produced for 25 years.
